Best Practices

This module covers best practices when working at heights. On completion, the learner will be able to:

  • Identify surrounding hazards
  • Attach a lanyard correctly
  • Secure a ladder correctly
  • Safely work at heights with tools
  • Climb safely

Harnesses and Lanyards

This module covers the use of harnesses and lanyards when working at heights. On completion, the learner will be able to:

  • Identify harness and lanyard components, uses and inspections to meet regulation requirements
  • Assess and select appropriate anchors
  • Understand connections of carabiner and sling attachments

Risks and Controls

This module covers risks and controls when working at heights. On completion, the learner will be able to:

  • Understand hazards associated with working at heights
  • Hierarchy of controls
  • Identify hazards on site
  • Apply correct controls to hazards

Lone Workers

This module covers working alone when at heights. On completion, the learner will be able to:

  • Identify who is a Lone worker
  • Understand practical ways in which you can protect yourself from harm when working alone
  • Complete a lone worker risk assessment
  • Personal safety when working alone

Pole Rescue

This module covers pole rescue when working at heights. On completion, the learner will be able to:

  • How to quickly and safely remove a victim from a power pole
  • Identify risks associated with a rescue
  • What should be included in a rescue plan

Pole Inspection

This module covers pole inspection when working at heights. On completion, the learner will be able to:

  • Ensure the pole is safe to climb
  • Understand the correct procedures when a pole is unsafe
  • How to tag an unsafe pole

Tower Inspection

This module covers tower inspection when working at heights. On completion, the learner will be able to:

  • Match appropriate systems to tower types
  • Recognise why a tower inspection is needed
  • Identify hazards on a tower
  • Identify safe climbing routes on a tower
  • Select appropriate equipment

Vertical and Horizontal Fall Protection Systems

This module covers vertical and horizontal systems when working at heights. On completion, the learner will be able to:

  • Identify components of vertical and horizontal systems
  • Identify hazards when using harness systems
  • Identify anchor points of vertical and horizontal systems
  • Recall the correct installation of vertical and horizontal systems using a full body harness
  • What to consider when disassembling vertical and horizontal systems

Building Inspection

This module covers working at heights on a building. On completion, the learner will be able to:

  • Recognize why a site inspection is needed when working on a building
  • Identify hazards when working on a building
  • Put controls in place to minimise risk
  • Select appropriate equipment for working at height on a building

Electronic System Identification

This module covers identification of electrical systems to work safely near electricity assets. On completion, the learner will be able to:

  • Identify pole types and components found on overhead lines
  • Identify types of cables found in the underground
  • Identify types of overhead lines and their features
  • Understand overhead lines from generations through to the customer

Safety Equipment in the Electricity Supply Industry

This module covers the use of safety equipment used when working near electricity assets. On completion, the learner will be able to:

  • Understand why protection is required in the electricity supply industry
  • Understand personal protection equipment (PPE) minimum requirements
  • Inspect and care for your personal protection equipment (PPE)

Health and Safety Risk Assessment

This module covers health and safety assessment in the workplace. On completion, the learner will be able to:

  • Identify risks and hazards for people, equipment, tasks and environment
  • Identify increases and decreases in risk
  • Use a risk matrix to evaluate initial risk, add control then re-evaluate risk
  • Identify hierarchy of controls and the level of effectiveness

NZ Health and Safety Responsibilities

This module covers health and safety responsibilities when working in New Zealand. On completion, the learner will be able to identify:

  • Safety requirements and responsibilities
  • Health and safety work regulations (HSWA 2015)
  • Appropriate ways to participate effectively in the workplace
  • Identify & manage hazards

NZ Health and Safety Regulations

This module covers health and safety requirements when working in New Zealand. On completion, the learner will be able to refreshed on New Zealand:
