Safe Excavation

This module covers safe excavation around underground network services. On completion, the learner will be able to:

  • Understand critical definitions and context for excavation safety
  • Understand soil classification
  • Understand roles and responsibilities
  • Understanding benching rules
Hazards and Controls

This module covers identifying hazards and putting controls in place when working on or around the underground network. On completion, the learner will be able to:

  • Understand hazards associated with underground work
  • Understand the hierarchy of controls
  • Apply controls to identified hazards on site
Responsibilities and Duties

This module covers responsibilities and duties when working on or around an underground network. On completion, the learner will be able to:

  • Identify underground services
  • Interpret plans and service markings for Electricity, Gas and Telecommunications
  • Understand risks to people & networks
  • Identify risks
Health and Safety Risk Assessment

This module covers health and safety assessment in the workplace. On completion, the learner will be able to:

  • Identify risks and hazards for people, equipment, tasks and environment
  • Identify increases and decreases in risk
  • Use a risk matrix to evaluate initial risk, add control then re-evaluate risk
  • Identify hierarchy of controls and the level of effectiveness
