Modules
Entering a Confined Space
This module covers entry into a confined space. On completion, the learner will be able to:
- Develop an entry plan
- Identify the requirements for carrying out hot works in a confined space
- Understand the need for a lock out permit for equipment isolation
- Understand requirements for an entry permit into a confined space
Working in a Confined Space
This module covers determining a confined space prior to entry. On completion, the learner will be able to:
- Identify a confined space
- Understand classification of a confined space
- Identify risks involved in different confined space situations
Confined Spaces Responsibilities and Duties
This module covers responsibilities and duties when working in or around a confined space. On completion, the learner will be able to:
- Understand permit issuer and receiver duties and the communication between the roles
- Understand the atmospheric monitoring requirements
Rescue Planning for Confined Spaces
This module covers rescue planning required to be in place before entering a confined space. On completion, the learner will be able to:
- Identify parameters and impacts of completing a rescue in a confined space
- Understand the types of rescue
- Communicate rescue plans and procedures
- Understand what to do in an emergency
Using Testing Devices
This module covers using an atmospheric testing device prior to entering a confined space. On completion, the learner will be able to:
- Understand the purpose and operation of an atmospheric testing device
- Identify the main gases, their causes and harmful effects
- Assess the level of harm to determine the suitable controls needed
- Interpret and respond to atmospheric testing results
Hazard Identification and Controls
This module covers hazard identification and controls required to be in place before entering a confined space. On completion, the learner will be able to:
- Understand hazards in a confined space environment
- Identify outcomes of present hazards
- Understand the hierarchy of Controls
- Apply controls to manage hazards in confined spaces
Health and Safety Risk Assessment
This module covers health and safety assessment in the workplace. On completion, the learner will be able to:
- Identify risks and hazards for people, equipment, tasks and environment
- Identify increases and decreases in risk
- Use a risk matrix to evaluate initial risk, add control then re-evaluate risk
- Identify hierarchy of controls and the level of effectiveness
